The SBCTC kicks off our new Summer Safety Series on Thursday, August 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Sacramento. This first of four sessions is open to all crafts and will cover Noise and Hearing Loss Prevention, a topic critical to all construction workers and their families. Union staff, apprenticeship reps, contractors, workers are all welcome to attend. This is a perfect opportunity for organizers, foremen, stewards, and apprenticeship instructors to obtain high-quality health and safety training at no cost. People can attend one or multiple sessions; locals can send different reps to each session.
Throughout August and September there will be three more Sacramento sessions (Toxics, Fall Prevention, Sprains & Strains) and one Los Angeles session (Fall Prevention).
We compete nationwide with non-union groups for the grant funding that brings these classes to you at no cost. By sending your local union and JATC staff to these classes you're also sending a message to federal OSHA that California building trades unions are a force for worker safety and deserving of their funding.
Class participants will receive the following:
-Comprehensive training on key hazard topics
-Networking and discussion
-Presentation by Cal/OSHA with discussion and Q&A
-Current information on workers' rights
-Tips on using this information effectively to help rank and file workers
-Lunch provided by the SBCTC
